A Blackbird Foods Recipe

INGREDIENTS

For the Fried Seitan…

  • 1 8oz package of Blackbird Chili Lime Seitan or Original Seitan cut into bite size pieces 

  • ½ cup Vegan Just Egg

  • ¼ cup Flour

  • ¼ cup Corn Starch 

  • 1 tsp Onion Powder

  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

  • Salt and Pepper to taste 

  • Oil for frying

For the Sesame Sauce…

  • 1 tsp Garlic, grated

  • ½ tsp Ginger, granted

  • ¼ cup Soy Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp Tomato Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp Maple Syrup 

  • 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar

  • 1 Tbsp Rice Vinegar 

  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil

  • 2 Tbsp Corn Starch

Other Ingredients…

  • 1 cup Jasmine Rice 

  • Sesame seeds (garnish) 

  • Cilantro (garnish)

METHOD

  1. Cut Blackbird Seitan into bite sized pieces and pat dry with paper towels

  2. Mix together Flour, Corn Starch, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Salt and Pepper

  3. Heat oil to 350 F

  4. Toss Seitan in Just Egg until each piece is evenly coated. Remove from Just Egg and allow excess to drip off, then toss in Cornstarch and Flour mixture  

  5. Shake off excess flour mixture and fry until golden brown, place on paper towels to drain 

  6. To make sauce, combine all ingredients and mix well, add to a medium sized pan and bring to a simmer, add seitan and coat evenly 

  7. Cook Jasmine Rice according to package instructions

  8. Serve Sesame Seitan over rice, garnished with Sesame Seeds and Cilantro
